ANTWAN STEELE’S “I Am Here” Story!!
Waking up every morning and taking that first breath solidifies my existence and gratitude towards the Lord for giving me one more day to be alive. I make sure I thank Him immediately because it lets me know that I AM HERE for a reason. This is of course my current state, but I wasn’t always thankful or making use of my time. When I graduated from high school, I wasn’t sure of what college I was attending. I made a quick decision and decided to enroll at the University of Akron. I figured since my friends were going there, I should go to. Being on my own, I embraced the freedom. I was not focused at all. In fact, I was ruining my college career before it started. I eventually made a bad choice and was kicked out of school and found myself in some legal issues. This was a very hard time for me. I thought my life was over at 18 years old. However, by the grace of God, I made it out of that situation. Two years later, I enrolled at the University of Toledo believing that I would do better because of my hard lesson learned a couple years prior. As time progressed, my focus decreased. It decreased so much that I found myself being suspended from school yet again. In two years I’ve been kicked out of school twice. One for behavior and one for academics. As the new year began, I made a vow that I would finish school no matter what it took. I enrolled in a community college in Toledo and stayed focused. After taking all the classes I needed, I eventually transferred back home at Cleveland State University to finish. I graduated with my bachelors degree in business administration in 2011. After the odds I beat as a young black man in society, I can now share my I AM HERE story. I AM HERE to inspire and uplift people facing adversity. I stand today with confidence that anyone can achieve their goals if they don’t give up. I now believe that my life is intentional whereas before I wasn’t sure why I was alive. I thank God for struggles because it breeds endurance. We all need hardships to make us stronger. How will you ever have the ability to rise above any issues that never occur? How will you ever overcome any obstacles that are never there? How will you ever get the chance to be resilient with nothing to be resilient about? Those define character. In your troubles is what make you feel you are here for a reason once you triumph over them. I’m also thankful for other successes in my life but none of it would be possible if it wasn’t for my struggles and of course the Lord. Defeating the odds proves to that I AM HERE for a reason.
